When you first meet Ivan Boonzaaier you may be excused for thinking that he’s a Russian ballet dancer.
The 26-year-old definitely looks the part and his Slavic name adds to the mystery. His shy, yet confident demeanour gives nothing away about the bulk of a man we meet on the stairs at Cape Town City Ballet’s headquarters.
When he speaks, his Afrikaans-English accent quickly dissolves any pre-conceived ideas you might have had of him.
