Oliseh plots Guinea’s fall, as Eagles begin preparation in Rubavu

NIGERIA arrived Rubavu, venue of tomorrow’s last group game against Guinea, with Super Eagles’ Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh, eager to end the phase with victory.

Nigeria defeated Niger Republic 4-1 and drew with Tunisia 1-1 to lead Group C of the on-going African Nations Championship (CHAN). The team needs at least a draw to guarantee a second round berth, as a loss to Guinea and Tunisia’s defeat of Niger Republic will see the Eagles out of the competition.

That scenario will leave Nigeria with four points, while Guinea and Tunisia will end with five points each.
Speaking ahead of tomorrow’s clash in Rubavu, Oliseh agreed that the Eagles would have to be at their best to get a good result from the game, adding, “I personally rate Guinea highly because they are a good team.

“We need to be a little tighter at the back because the kind of goals when have conceded in the tournament are all because of some lazy movement.”

Tomorrow’s game will be played simultaneously with the match between Tunisia and Niger at the Kigali Regional Stadium. Also speaking on the game, Prince Aggrey, who has been one of the revelations of the competition, disclosed that the players were eager to go battle the Syli Stars.

He added, however, “We know a draw will be enough for us to make it to the next round, but we will go all out for a win.” Leading scorer at the championship, Chisom Chikatara, is of the opinion that his team will make the quarterfinal no matter what Guinea throws at them.
According to Chikatara, whose four goals is the highest by any player in this championship, the Eagles have vowed to win the group.

“Though we do not see the match as a must-win, we have, however, told ourselves we must finish the group race in first place.

“Understandably, Guinea will come out tough in order to chalk-up the points that will see them progress to the last eight but we will not allow them the luxury. “We have already steeled ourselves for whatever Guinea will come up with [but we’ll handle them] same way we handled the Nigeriens and Tunisians.
“The Tunisians are the toughest, so far, in the championship but we ended the clash with our heads held high.”
